Dr. Zhengyingyue "Elaine" Huang, a distinguished Chinese soprano with an international career, has performed at prestigious venues including the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the San Miguel Bel Canto Institute in Mexico, and major American opera houses such as Temple Opera Theater, KU Opera, Orange County Lyric Opera, and Opera Italia. She has also been an apprentice with the Russia International Art Festival at the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the San Miguel Institute of Bel Canto in Mexico. In the U.S., she has performed several roles with LAH-SOW Minneapolis Opera, Crittenden Opera Workshop, Landlocked Opera, Music On Site, and Lyric Opera of Orange County. Her operatic roles include Cio-Cio-san in Madama Butterfly, the Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas, Mutter in Hänsel und Gretel, the Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Mrs. Gobineau in The Medium, Pierrette in Pierrette et Jacquot, the title role in Suor Angelica, and leading parts in La Bohème and Così fan tutte.

 

Dr. Huang has given acclaimed solo recitals at Shanghai Concert Hall (China), Rock Hall (Philadelphia), Swarthout Recital Hall (Kansas), Laguna Art Center (Los Angeles), and Zipper Hall (Los Angeles), among others. Recently, she concluded a successful four-city concert tour across China (Zhangzhou, Nanchang, Shanghai, Chengdu).

A passionate advocate for social justice and ethnic diversity in music, Dr. Huang founded the Asian Classical Music Initiative (ACMI) in 2021. ACMI seeks to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAAPI) classical composers. Since its founding, ACMI has produced multiple concerts and hosted four international conferences in New Jersey, Kansas, and Los Angeles, bringing together scholars, composers, performers, and music lovers from around the world. The initiative also engages in educational outreach to raise awareness of AAAPI music and to build bridges between cultures through music. Through this work, Dr. Huang was selected as a Leadership Representative for The White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.

 

As a new music enthusiast, she premiered the chamber opera Snow Angel, which explores the rediscovery and reclamation of identity and agency after a sexual assault. She has also premiered commissioned works by composers such as Ke-Chia Chen and Dong Kui (a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient).

 

Dr. Huang is a laureate of several international competitions, including gold medals from the Russia International Vocal Competition and the London International Classical Music Competition. As a scholar, she has presented at global forums such as the International Women’s Music Conference (IWMA) and the College Music Society (CMS).

 

Additionally, Dr. Huang is an opera director, having staged Amahl and the Night Visitors on a U.S. Midwest tour. She actively engages in music education and interdisciplinary advocacy, serving as Executive Committee of the China Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She is also a member of the International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM) and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and has served on the boards of the Asian Opera Alliance and the Lied Center of Kansas. She is the editor of the U.S.-based academic journal 3-E Music Review.

 

Dr. Huang holds degrees from East China Normal University (B.A.), Temple University (M.M.), and the University of Kansas (D.M.A.).

黄博士是亚洲古典音乐倡议(ACMI)的创始人和执行董事,她发起成立了美国第一个由学生发起的宣传亚洲音乐家音乐的组织亚洲古典音乐倡议(ASIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC INITIATIVE),成功举办了多场音乐会音乐会,委约陈怡教授的作品,在2022与2023年先后在堪萨斯大学和罗格斯大学举办两次国际论坛,吸引了近两百位国际亚裔音乐人,学者的参与。除了歌剧,她还在奥地利因斯布鲁克的蒂罗尔国际钢琴学院担任钢琴家。黄博士曾担任亚洲歌剧联盟以及里德艺术表演中心的董事会成员,并担任堪萨斯大学音乐学院多元化、公平、包容、 和归属感DEIB委员会成员。黄博士目前担任国际女性音乐联盟,美国全国音乐教师协会,全国声乐教师协会会员。
